Who’s WHO in the (Jenman) Zoo?

Who’s WHO in the (Jenman) Zoo?

Whose Who in the Jenman Zoo? We hired 5 new staff members to join the Jenman Team & we put them on the spot this month by asking them some interesting questions!

Catherine Shutte (Operations Admin Assistant): What is the “blondest” moment you have had working in the Operations department? I didn’t realise that Lady Hamilton was a Hotel in Cape Town and I asked Jo (Operations Assistant) who Lady Hamilton was.

Maria Ross (Sales Consultant): Since you moved all the way from Germany to Cape Town – what has been the funniest thing that has happened to since you moved?
I recently went to the Clifton Beach for a sundowner and managed to lose a shoe on the way back to the car. Back in Germany, I would have ended up walking back home (in Germany, you are not allowed to drive a car barefoot) and being VERY sad, because you are not allowed to enter bars/cafes barefoot either. Here in Cape Town I learnt that it does not matter if you are wearing shoes or not. So I ended up walking barefoot into a bar and making excuses about been embarrassed about walking around without shoes. Meanwhile, the bouncer, the barkeeper as well as my friends laughed at me, because I acted so German… What a real South African Experience!

Lastman Tsangu (Groups intern): Since you are originally from Zimbabwe, what do you think the future of Zimbabwe holds? Currently travel and tourism in Zimbabwe is on the road to recovery following a decade of slowdown on arrivals and some political issues. Since 2010 there has been a notable increase in tourist arrivals. Although the vast numbers visiting Victoria Falls, soon other destinations like Kariba, Mana Pools, Hwange National Park, the Eastern Highlands and Matopos to mention a few, will become more popular…. Zimbabweans are also very caring and welcoming people which is an added advantage to the future growth of the travel industry in Zimbabwe. In Africa, Victoria Falls remains incomparable and astonishing even to repeat visitors.

Ruth Erusmas (Sales Consultant): What do you really like about your new job at Jenman Safaris?
So, what I really like about my new job at Jenman Safaris is that I get to work with a fantastic team of people who share my serious passion for travel in Africa and Madagascar, places that are home to some of the most beautiful and incredible wildlife and culture in the world. I also really enjoy being able to tailor tours to clients specific needs and interests, and love taking on challenging enquiries and being able to deliver the best possible travel experiences for individual clients. As I have a history in environmental management and tackling green issues, I love the fact that I’m working for a company who takes environmental and social issues seriously. Jenman African Safaris endeavours, not only to make a difference to people’s lives by facilitating great travel experiences, but also to uplift and improve the lives of people we come into contact with on our travels and to conserve and protect the environments we come to experience when we visit wild Africa. This is something that resonates with my soul.

Mandy Pinho (Sales Consultant): What is the strangest question you have been asked as a consultant at Jenman Safaris?
Haha! That’s an easy one – I was corresponding with a client who was interested in travelling to Zimbabwe. The one itinerary that we were discussing included a visit to Lake Kariba where the client promptly asked “how much water is in Lake Kariba”…. Um! I wasn’t quite sure if she thought she was going to swim across the lake? But… out of interest there is about 200 billion tons of water in that Lake!
