Le Mirage Spa & Resort is architecturally striking and is located in the vast desert area of Sossusvlei. It blends in beautifully with the sparse natural surroundings, but inside, offers a lush oasis for guests to relax and cool off from the Namibian heat. Each of the rooms at Le Mirage offer expansive views of the Namib Desert plains, and guests can enjoy exciting activities such as hot air ballooning and scenic quad bike excursions at sunrise and sunset.

At Le Mirage Resort & Spa, guests can experience the Namib Desert in luxury, castle-esque ambiance. Located within the Sosussvlei area, and just 21km from the Sesriem entrance gate to the Namib Naukluft Park, this is an ideal accommodation for those looking to explore some of the world’s largest sand dunes.

Le Mirage blends in beautifully with its natural surroundings, and each of the rooms offers sweeping views of the vast Namib Desert. The building’s dark stone contrasts with the room’s crisp white linen and, coupled with the extensive mosquito nets and in-suite open plan bathrooms, makes for a luxurious and relaxing stay.

Head to the wellness centre to indulge in de-stressing treatments such as massages, manicures, pedicures and more. And in the large courtyard, guest can opt to unwind in the jacuzzi, take a dip in the swimming pool, or simply relax in a lush garden oasis that is sheltered from the Namibian heat.

  1. Alessandra Azevedo van Dyk

The architecture of this lodge is incredibly striking. Styled like an Arabian castle, it does really seem like a mirage in the Namibian desert. Rooms are very spacious, with beautiful 4-poster beds draped with mosquito netting. There is also an open-air sleeping deck, called the Tower, where you can spend a night observing Namibia’s jaw-dropping night sky. This romantic experience can be booked in advance or at the lodge itself if there is availability. The courtyard is a desert oasis itself, with a cool pool for relief from the heat. The food was great, with breakfast and dinner included, although some meals more impressive than others. The environment is just out of this world, near to Sossusvlei’s famous sand dunes making it a great base to explore from. The lodge is just near enough to Sossusvlei to be convenient but far enough away to avoid the crowds and touristy feeling. Two of the activities that can be prebooked are a sunrise Hot Air balloon trip and quad biking through the desert. I enjoyed the adrenaline rush and adventurous spirit of the Quad biking and next time would love to try the Hot Air balloon.
