As one of Cape Town’s oldest and most historic luxury hotels, the blush-hued Mount Nelson, is a must for anyone who appreciates the finer things in life coupled with a fascination with history. Driving up the long palm-lined driveway that dates from 1929 made me feel like I was in Hollywood or Beverly Hills – although actually the hotel holds prime location in central Cape Town. But as one of Cape Town’s top luxury hotels, guests can expect only the best service and finest attention to detail. My room was incredibly spacious and the bathroom was fully equipped with all the amenities including a whole range of lovely Charlotte Rhys products. The towels are massive and incredibly soft, almost the size of a blanket. I loved that I could choose between both a linen dressing gown or a terry cloth one for lounging around. Once I managed to pull myself away from the haven of my luxurious room it was time to explore the beautiful gardens. Wandering among the roses and sparkling water fountains while looking up at Table Mountain made me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. The buffet breakfast was a particular treat with various stations such as “fresh fruit, waffles & sweets, cheese, breads & pastries, and even fresh oysters. This classic hotel is often the home away from home for celebrity guests like Hollywood stars or world famous musicians. You may even spot someone illustrious in the hotel’s sparkling Planet Bar, ultra-luxurious spa, or at one of the three sumptuous high-tea seating’s that come complete with their own in-house tea sommelier! It’s an unrivalled level of old-world excellence that attracts discerning guests from around the globe.
