Table Mountain is one of Cape Town’s biggest attractions, and if we’re going on size – then it is actually the biggest. Many tourists take a ride to the top on the cable car but some adventurous types, like me, prefer to hike to the top for a more personally rewarding experience. One of the best ways to do this is on a guided day trip, where you can be sure of your safety as well as confident that you won’t get lost up in the mountain. I really enjoyed my outing, which not only included a guided hike up the mountain but also ziplining and wine tasting! But first things first, summiting Table Mountain. We were picked up at 7 am and driven to Platteklip Gorge, a ravine with stone steps heading to the top of the mountain, where we would start our hike. Depending on your fitness it’s actually not too strenuous but as I am not the fittest person I appreciated the many breaks we took to enjoy the scenery. We were led by 2 guides, one in the front and one in the back to make sure the stragglers (like me) don’t feel left behind. We even all received a delicious goody bag of treats to nibble on. 2 hours later we reached the top. On a clear day, you can see the whole peninsula and I was absolutely taken with the beauty of the Cape. We made our way down in the rotating cable car and headed to the next exciting activity – ziplining! This was a lot of fun and took place over the valleys on the back slope of the mountain. I felt very safe the whole time but it is also possible to zipline tandem if you feel like you need a helping hand. Then it was time for lunch, which was on our own account before heading to a delightful wine tasting (included) in Constantia where we sampled local Cape Town wines and chatted and laughed about the day’s adventures. After sharing so much fun it’s easy to make friends with the other members of the group and it was a great way to round off the day.
