I recently joined some agents on a fam trip to Rio Azul – located on a quiet peninsula stretching out into the Indian ocean in Mozambique. The surrounding area is so remote from any infrastructure that the best way to reach the lodge is in fact along the vast sandy beaches running up alongside it. This is a wonderful experience and certainly one of the most unique drives I have been on in a while. The location provides for some stunning views and surroundings, which are best experienced on one of the many of the water based activities; visiting Pansy Island, the mangrove forest in the estuary closer towards the mainland, and also Santa Carolina – or, Paradise Island as it’s also known. You even get your own boat to explore the lagoon and river systems with. The water is as blue as it gets, and the sands fine and soft. One of the lodge’s other real assets its Mozambican staff – hospitality at its finest. At all times I felt well taken care of by the great team working there. The thatched chalets blend in perfectly with the surroundings – giving a truly relaxed beach-feel. A beautiful lodge for families or adventurous travellers with a variety of activities on offer – as well as sublime relaxation in serene surroundings. Everyone agreed and we returned tanned, relaxed and refreshed.
