I’ve always wanted to learn how to use a “fancy” DSLR camera but been too lazy to take classes so carried on using the phone on my camera for happy snaps. This tour was an excellent way to become comfortable with a more professional camera and learn the tricks of the trade while visiting the highlights of the Cape Peninsula. We were each given our own Canon D600 for the day and driven in a comfortable private vehicle on our journey. Our first stop was the colourful wooden huts on Muizenberg beach – an Instagram staple, and from there we headed to the Kalk Bay harbour, the Penguin Colony at Boulder’s Beach, and lastly Groot Constantia Wine Estate. At each beautiful spot we learnt different techniques for taking the best shot and were also able to really play with effects and functionality. Our guide was amazing with her patience and individual attention. She also had lots of insightful information about the attractions we visited which would have been enjoyable on their own but the experience was greatly enhanced by being able to capture it on film. At the end of the full-day tour we had to return the cameras but were given the SD card to keep and left with a confidence in our photography and renewed appreciation for this picturesque city.
