Bumi Hills Safari Lodge and Spa boast one of Africa’s finest wilderness locations with an elevated position on a range of remote hills overlooking the vastness of Lake Kariba. Bumi is situated near the North Eastern border of the Matusadona National Park and is easily accessible by light aircraft and boat, allowing you to be swiftly transported into paradise without the stress of a long journey.

The safari lodge has a total of 10 rooms, all with views over Lake Kariba. All rooms are premium rooms with balconies and uninhibited views over Lake Kariba. There are garden rooms available too, reserved for guides and tour leaders, with slated terraces, set a little way back behind and on a level above the premium rooms. Taking centre stage is the beautiful infinity pool that seems to blend endlessly into the lake horizon. The pool is surrounded by intimate wine and dining terraces on different levels. The lodge interiors have been beautifully finished in a fusion of contemporary western and African styles.

Bumi Hills Safari Lodge is situated on an extensive wildlife conservatioZn area. Bumi Hills is home to lion, leopard, big herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as a multitude of different plains game.

Bumi Hills with its views over the inviting, rim flow pool and onto the massive lake was like a breath of fresh air after the dusty savannah of the African bush. The raised location of the lodge offers spectacular views right across the lake into Zambia and on the shore below us we could see herds of impala, hippos resting, and elephants cooling themselves in the water. The 10 lake-facing rooms are all immaculately appointed and very spacious. Bumi doesn’t do rustic, tented accommodation, it’s very much a sophisticated and stylish place. Each room includes a generous entrance hall, bedroom, balcony, bathroom, a separate outdoor shower, and the solid walls and doors mean bugs are kept to a minimum. While in Bumi we enjoyed two sunset boat cruises, in different directions, as well as a morning game drive and a night drive, late after dinner. Our guide, Maxwell, looked after us exceptionally well and was completely flexible to our needs and wishes. We relaxed on the various viewing decks, each revealing its own unique vista over the water and made the most of the delicious meals on offer. Top marks to the chef! It was the sunset boat cruises that really stood out for me. You won’t find many more spectacular sunsets than at Lake Kariba. Bumi Hills for me is all about the setting, the scenery and the lodge experience – a true relaxing feast for your senses.
