We’ve asked her a few questions to find out more about her, as well as her top tips for guests who are coming to Africa for a guided group tour.

Chantel

How long have you been a guide?
16 years.

Where is the most interesting place you’ve been?
Namibia.

What do you usually do when you when you have time off?
Go camping with friends by the sea or in the mountains. Fishing and hiking. Or just catch up on a good book or movie.

What was the best compliment you’ve received?
That I made their trip special and unforgettable.

What have you learned from your travels through Africa?
To appreciate what I have and to enjoy every moment.

What is something you will NEVER do again?
Drive the road between Tsumkwe and Nokaneng (in Namibia) after heavy rains. Left at 6 and arrived 4 am next day after getting stuck 5 times.

What is something you hope your guests remember or “take away” from their trip in Africa?
That experience and adventure are the things that make our lives unique and special. The people we meet and share moments with give us meaning and joy.

Why do you think conservation is important?
We need to protect our wild areas to ensure our future generations have the same beautiful planet to live on.

If you had to choose only 3 adjectives to describe yourself, which would you choose?
Passionate, stubborn and friendly.

What animal best represents you, and why?
Honey badger. I’m tough and tenacious.

If you could take only three items with you on a safari, what would they be?
Camera, binoculars and my Swiss army knife.
