During the week of 22 to 26 February I was fortunate enough to attend the Jenman Safaris workshop. We had our first one last year and it was a great success. Naturally Jenman decided to repeat the process this year and outdo themselves. Cliff Turk was our astronomy expert this year and he definitely awoke a new passion for the subject in all of us. Even though the Cape Town weather did not allow for too much stargazing, the course was interesting and we saw some amazing photographs taken from space. As soon as I get into the desert I am pulling out my star maps and enjoying the splendour.
It was great to get to know some of the other guides better. We don’t always run the same routes and miss each other most of the time. Of course we get to learn from each other, get to “steal’ each others ideas & swap stories and experiences.
The best part of the workshop was certainly the 4×4 course. Taking out the best vehicle (Jenman land cruiser) and having some fun in the dunes at Atlantis was not only beautiful but exhilarating. We all had our chance to have a try – up and over some big dunes and we learnt how to recover vehicles if they get stuck. The trainers; Rob and Trevor, really knew what they are doing and it’s always a privilege to learn from experienced guys.
All the information we covered, the knowledge we shared and the interaction we had was awesome. It’s going to be a great year for Jenman African Safaris and I am happy to be here.
Thank you Jenman for the opportunity to learn more and meet my colleagues…
I am already looking forward to the next one!
