Recently our latest edition to Jenman Safaris – our very own Marketing intern (Svea) from Germany – decided to take a trip to the Garden Route on a long weekend. She has been asking us lots of questions of ‘where to go’, ‘what to see’, ‘where to eat’…. And she had decided that the Garden route was a must! So after persuading some of her flat mates off she went on a trip to the Garden Route, read what she has to say below: (and yes Svea, we are looking forward to hearing more of your highlights in and around Le Cap, Afrique du Sud 🙂 )
Last weekend was a good occasion to leave the city behind and go on a little trip. Even though 3 days seem to be quite short, we decided to do the Garden Route – or at least a compressed version of it. First stop was Mossel Bay which seems to be rather calm at this time of the year. Nevertheless, we indulged ourselves a drink on the beach and then went to look for a place to get something to eat. We went to an African Restaurant, which (we thought) specialized in serving local food… turns out their specialty was ravioli! But, it was still a nice and decent place and after the meal we were invigorated to explore the city…
The next day we headed for the Cango Caves on a tour – guided by a guy who convinced us not by his expert knowledge but by his entertaining skills for the tour. In the early afternoon we set out for Plettenburg, enjoying the sight of stunning landscapes, ostriches and monkeys crossing the road. Taking a break in Knysna, we ran into everybody wearing pink skimpy dresses at the Pink Parade/Party. After strolling around for a little while and having a nice and refreshing drink we decided to leave because everybody I was with felt a bit under-dressed in comparison to the pink dresses and outfits all around.
Spending the night in Plettenburg, we got up early end enjoyed a lovely breakfast right next to the beach. The weather was awesome, but there was not much time left to hang out at the fabulous beach, because the final destination was to be the world’s highest-bungee jump. There was only one volunteer among the four of us, who dared to face his fear. Obviously he loved it. For the rest of us even watching was a nervy-jangling affair…but at the end of the day everybody had a great weekend and I am looking forward to exploring more of that beautiful country.
