Bench International Fam Trip

Bench International Fam Trip 3

Exploring Victoria Falls, Hwange and Chobe was the recent objective of a Family put together by Jenman Safaris, for Bench International of Australia… and what an adventure it turned out to be! Eager agents were invited by Bench to join them in experiencing the hospitality of the Peermont Metcourt Suites Hotel, the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Ilala Lodge, the Victoria Falls Safari Club, Jenman African Safaris, Wild Horizons, Elephant’s Eye, Hwange and Ngoma Lodge in Botswana. The weather came to the party too, and what initially looked a bit dicey, turned out to be 8 glorious days of sunshine and fun…

Day one saw everyone arriving with an overnight in Johannesburg, before heading off to a grand new adventure the next morning. Activities in Vic Falls included a sunset cruise, tour of the mighty falls, a Canopy Tour, Helicopter Flight, Devil’s Pool excursion, elephant interaction and not to forget a Lion Walk! Each day offered a taste of what Vic Falls, Hwange and Chobe can provide, from spectacular sunsets, stroking lions, feeding enormous African elephants, game viewing by boat on the magnificent Chobe River, and viewing huge herds of elephants making their way to the Hwange waterholes (There are no natural rivers here, so the waterholes are the lifeblood of Hwange).

Another highlight of the trip was meeting a tiny orphaned elephant calf. Her mother had been tragically killed on the main road, just 2 days before we all arrived… The Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust is a wonderful organisation that does amazing work in and around the Vic Falls area, taking in and caring for orphaned wildlife (For more info see the Hideaways Facebook Page).

Manuel, or “Manu” as he likes to be called, met us at the VF Airport with a huge, friendly Zimbabwean smile. He is one of Jenman Safaris’ guides and was assigned to look after us for the duration of the Family. (he eventually became known as “Mr Manoeuvre” due to his remarkable driving skills in the 12 Seater 4×4 Jenman Safaris vehicle). We were spoilt on the first day with lunch at Ilala, followed by a stunning Sunset Cruise on the mighty Zambezi… what a way to start! The Peermont Metcourt had provided transport and much welcomed, lovely accommodation on the night of arrival, which gave everyone a much-needed chance to rest before tackling the Adventure Capital of the World…

The Victoria Falls Safari Lodge was a stunning start to our trip and the staff were all so friendly and efficient. This lodge is lovely, with a great atmosphere… We were then really spoilt and experienced the Safari Club for a night. This was superb accommodation, and I thoroughly LOVED the Nespresso machine in each room! From here we transferred to Elephant’s Eye, Hwange for a fantastic bush experience and exceptional staff. The food was amazing too – Thanks to Gabriel for working his magic. The final “Pièce de résistance” was the last night in Botswana at the stunning Ngoma Lodge, overlooking the Chobe River Valley before heading back to Johannesburg and bidding a fond farewell to our wonderful safari and Manu.
