Madagascar is not only known for its endemic flora and flora, but is also renowned for its endless coastline, white sandy beaches, sparkling clear turquoise water and restaurants serving seafood feasts on the sand. To round off your holiday in Madagascar with a spectacular beach-stay, we suggest heading to the island of Nosy Be for a five day break.

A four-night Nosy Be beach package on the Madagascar Island of Nosy Be, with accommodation at the beautiful Vanila Hotel . Starting in Nosy Be, Madagascar and ending in the busy capital city of Madagascar, Antananarivo – 5 Days

Tour Highlights

Nosy Be – With an area of 321 km2, Nosy Be (‘Big Island’) is the largest of Madagascar’s offshore islands. It’s often billed in tourist brochures as the ‘Ile aux Parfums’ and, like the nearby Comoros islands, is a centre for the production of perfume essence from the ylang-ylang tree. Other island products include sugar cane, coffee, vanilla, pepper, saffron and other spices – making the markets in Nosy Be fantastic and rich with bargains!

Nosy Komba (Own expense) – Nosy Komba is a volcanic island between Nosy Be and the main island – off the north-western tip of Madagasca. It’s quite a popular destination for its sheer beauty, black lemurs and as it’s known as the ‘island of perfumes’. Explore the clean, private beaches and the primal forest with magnificent plant species.

Antananarivo – Antananarivo is a city for walking. Some of the most interesting places and views will be chanced upon during leisurely walks – that may climb haphazardly over the hills. Tana is truly a lovely Madagascar vacation destination and spending a few days there will be a great experience!

Vanila Hotel – Set on the west coast of Nosy Be island in a magnificent tropical garden, the Vanila hotel offers mid range accommodation with spectacular views and plenty of activities to keep you occupied. With a multitude of swimming pools, restaurants and bars, a private beach on Sakatia Island, and an excursions booking desk, you can choose to stay active, or just relax.

Pre-tour Prep

Departure: When arriving in Nosy Be in the morning of Day 1 of the tour you will be picked up from the airport and embark on your tour. Should you arrive prior to day 1, pre-tour accommodation can be arranged and you will be picked up from your hotel on the morning of day 1. (Pick up time will be confirmed on arrival).

Transport: A 4WD vehicle is used during this tour.

Spending Money: Clients are advised to bring enough money to cover their lunches and dinners, the purchase of curios and additional entertainment. Madagascar’s currency is the Ariary. Euros are the most practical and convenient currency to exchange into the local currency at the Airport. International credit cards and travellers cheques are very seldom accepted, although VISA cards are accepted at the Vanila hotel.

Meals: Where included meals will be enjoyed in the restaurants of the various accommodation establishments. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements in advance.

Visas: A visa is required to enter the territory of Madagascar and can easily be obtained upon arrival at the airport of Antananarivo with a validity of up to 90 days. Tourists staying for less than one month, can purchase a visa for 80’000 Ariary (around 23-27 €). Paying with the exact amounts or small currency is advised. No photographs are required, however please ensure that passports are valid for at least 6 months after return date. In addition to the entry visa, the Malagasy government is proposing the introduction of a frontier levy of 10 € in the near future, still to be confirmed and variable at short notice.

If you feel you have been looked after well by your crew or guides, and you wish to show your appreciation for their services, a monetary tip is very welcomed by those in Madagascar. Here follows some suggested guidelines:

  • Around EUR 4 per person, per day (10,000 Ariary) for a guide or a guide/driver.
  • Around EUR 2 (5,000 Ariary) for a park guide, depending on your satisfaction.
  • Around 5% of the bill at a restaurant
  • 200 Ariary per bag for a porter.

As Euro coins cannot be changed into local money in Madagascar, it is advisable to tip in Ariary. We would ask that you please reserve your generosity for tipping for services only, and not providing free hand-outs to children or adults, as this encourages begging.

Travel Insurance: Please note that travel and cancellation insurance is mandatory for every guest travelling with Jenman Madagascar Safaris. All insurance is solely the responsibility of our guests. Please ensure you arrange your own insurance with protection for the full duration of your journey to cover personal injury, damage and loss of personal items including but not limited to camera equipment and other electronic items, medical expenses, repatriation expenses and loss of luggage, etc. Please speak to your travel agent if you require assistance.
