Our guests, Bruce and Lesley, recently completed the 21 day Northern Experience tour and what a wonderful trip it was. Read below about their feedback on the tour.
To everyone at Jenman,
My wife and I recently returned home from an African Safari of our dreams. We took the 21 day “Northern Experience” that departed on August 28th, 2012 with Chantel van der Linde as our tour guide. We cannot say enough good things about this trip. We had been actively planning our once in a lifetime journey to Africa for about 7 years. For my wife she knew from the time she saw a picture of Dune 45 in a magazine at about the age of 12 that it would be a place she would visit one day. For me it has been a life long goal for as long as I can remember to see elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos and all sorts of animals in the wild.
I am happy to say that your tour has fulfilled our dreams and gone above and beyond anything we could expect. As we left Cape town on our first day Chantel promised the weather would change and the sun would shine and sure enough it did, with only rain on our first night in Gecko Creek. From there we were amazed at the diversity of the landscape as we travelled north. We had chosen to take a half accommodated option of this tour and were joined by 3 others in our group to take this option as well. I can tell you that sleeping in a tent under the african sky was something we will not soon forget and was an experience we would recommend to anyone. Sossusvlei and Deadvlei lived up to all of our expectations. Our tour of the Living Desert was also an unexpected highlight of our trip. Who knew so much life could be found when you know where to look in what looks like such a barren place. Moving farther along it became time to switch from the beauty of the landscape to the abundance of wildlife africa has to offer. Etosha was very gracious to our tour group and Chantel could spot game from a mile away.
Wednesday September 12th will forever be remembered by our group of 10 tour mates a Super Wednesday. Chantel managed to deliver that day in a big way. We saw an abundance of wildlife just as we had seen the day before, until we left a waterhole after seeing 3 male lions in the grass. Shortly there after we notice two small heads in the grass along side the road which turned out to be two cheetahs. We watched in amazement for about 10 minutes until we were about to drive off when they both perked up and took more notice of some springbok grazing close by. Suddenly the chase was on and in about 10 seconds the cheetah had brought down the springbok in a National Geographic worthy chase. We all sat in amazement of what we just witnessed as Chantel told us that in her 8 1/2 years of guiding she had not seen something this special and how lucky our group was to have witnessed this. We collected our excitement as we reviewed our pictures of the chase and moved on along down the road. Spotting many other animals including hyena, zebra, springbok, giraffe and the list goes on. About 1 km from our camp for the night we turned on a side road to see what another truck had stopped to look at and we were blessed to see a female leopard lying next to the road under a small bush. Again we reflected upon how lucky this day was seeing the trifecta of big cats in one day and seeing the perfect cheetah kill, Super Wednesday was born. We arrived at Namutoni shortly after and made camp, Chantel whipped up one of her fabulous dinners, which we were all amazed at how she did so with such rudimentary facilities (a camp fire and propane camp stove). We ate like kings for the whole tour with not one meal repeated. I could go on for about another six pages about the rest of our highlights but suffice to say the trip was one we will never forget. We now have 8 other people we will be friends with for the rest of our lives. We will also return to Africa in the future for another trip with Jenman safaris to one of your other destinations. We will expound to our friends about this trip and recommend it to anyone who even shows a faint interest in visiting Africa.
Reading the short story in your blog about your guides being the life of your company I can only agree. Chantel made our trip memorable with her ability and excellence in all areas (cooking, game spotting, passion for the culture and animals, strict regimen keeping the group in line, and so many other ways). Again I can only say thank you for what you have given us and that we will be using Jenman in the future. Everything was perfect from the booking info we received, to the guide, to the trip, to the vehicle.
