My first Educational – I am such a lucky girl!
And so I joined our Southern Experience tour from 10.-24. November.
I arrived in the very hot Victoriafälle, Simbabwe and enjoyed the view on the first waterhole on tour from the swimming pool at Lokuthula lodges…
Our group met that evening, a funny bunch of 8 guests from the Netherlands, Germany and Austria, and of course our tour guide Conrad (we couldn’t have done it without him).
It’s so exciting to have the whole holiday ahead! First breakfast together (with a warthog family watching us), getting comfortable in our Landcruiser Rafiki and off we go..
We started with a guided tour of the Vic Falls that day and although the Falls are much more dry than at other times of the year it is an unbelievably impressive view. We crossed the Zimbabwean und die Botswana border (the first crossing of many) to go to Kasane where we got on a private sunset cruise on the world famous Chobe River. What a highlight, we did not know where to look first – crocodiles, hippos, elephants, giraffes and buffalos everywhere.
The African sunset topped it, these colours!! It was one of many incredible sunsets; and every one of them is different.
Our route took us through Chobe Nationalpark, no time to sleep, there were just too many elephants to see.
Crossing into Namibia we made our way to Camp Kwando in the Caprivi strip. And after yet another encounter with African wildlife in the Mudumu National Park we relaxed in the evening at the Boma overlooking the Kwando river and listening to the sounds of the crickets. The next day we headed back to Botswana into the Okavango Delta, and what a trip this was. The last 20km of the way lead through deep sand and we needed hands and feet to hold on to the vehicle.
In an amusement park you need to pay for a drive like this! We loved it.
Our destination was Guma lagoon, a little paradise! The sunrise at 05h45 the next morning was definitely worth getting up early and after this it just got better as we did a trip with the traditional Mokoro boats and a bush walk on one of the floating islands in the Okavango Delta. How idyllic! After 2 days at this beautiful spot on earth we continued to Rundu in Namibia…
