Our consultants FAM TRIP departed on 27 March @1300pm. We left the office and after a quick “diesel stop” we headed off towards the N1 and soon we were on our way to the Cedarberg! As we were a group of ladies we had to have an inevitable toilet break er-route…. Once we got off the main road we traveled for about 1.5 hours on gravel road… So, an important note to anyone planning to travel that way, your car should be able to handle the roads! The 1.5 hours on gravel road felt much longer, the scenery was dry, rocky and bush. Needless to say we were quite happy when we reached Sandrift Campsite, our stop for the night. As this was a “work trip” it had to be run as one of our scheduled safari trips. Jan, who was our guide for the trip quickly, gave us an idea of what “semi participation” is…
We had to help unload all the camping equipment and luggage from the custom-built 4×4 Landcruiser. Jan then showed us how to set up our tents. It was my first time but I think I did pretty well :). After that first thing I decided to do was check out the communal ablutions. I was pleasantly surprised that it was quite clean! As we were pretty hungry at that stage Jan started the fire for the braai. After a long day it was great to just sit around the fire and unwind. After a hearty meal Amina and I were very tired and decided to call it a day while the others stayed around the fire talking the night away.
On Saturday we woke up nice and early for had a lovely breakfast. We had arrived (the night before) when it was already dark so I was pleasantly surprised the next morning to see the beauty of the place, the mountains the trees etc.
We decided to go on a short hike before leaving for our next stop. The Rock pools were really amazing. It was then time to leave, we repacked the vehicle and were on our way to West Coast National Park. We had a delightful lunch at a restaurant in the Park called Geelbek Restaurant. Great atmosphere and good food!! After lunch we made our way back to our accommodation for the night called Dunepos Chalets. I would definitely recommend this as it is very clean, comfortable tastefully decorated with a kitchen well equipped with all the comforts of home.
We were really treated that evening as Jan cooked up a storm and presented us with delicious seafood curry!
The Sunday was our last day and we only had one more stop at Buffelsfontein Game Reserve. We went on a short 2-3 hour game drive and afterwards mad our way home back to Kapstadt.
