This protected reserve was opened to visitors in 1985 and covers a massive area of 131km2. The Buffalo Springs Reserve was established to protect the wildlife found in the area. A lot of wildlife is found on the banks of the Eswasgo Ngiro River. Animals found within the Buffalo Springs reserve include; buffalo, cheetah, eland, elephant, hippo, leopard, lion and many other fascinating animals. The Buffalo Springs area is also home to an amazing array of bird life. If you are an avid bird photographer then this is one of the most untouched and surprising areas to visit on your safari in Kenya!
Visiting Buffalo Springs Reserve can be done either by car of by air. To travel by car means that you will have to cover an area of over 300km from Nairobi which can take quite some time depending on the road conditions and the weather. There is actually an airstrip in Buffalo Springs which means catching a charter flight from Nairobi can give you a much quicker option!
Visiting Buffalo Springs is only complete if you visit Samburu and Shaba too – they both offer a unique and different outlook to Kenya. If you are interested in visiting Buffalo Springs on a Kenyan safari please chat to our East Africa office.
