Arusha is known as the safari capital of the northern safari circuit. It is the springboard to Tanzania’s wildlife wonders, including the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Mount Kilimanjaro. An area steeped in history, Arusha displays its past and culture in architecture, markets, museums and galleries.
Often seen as merely a stopover en route to safari, Arusha is overlooked in character and activities. The bustling, African town invites exploration of its nightlife, restaurants and cafes. One should also visit the Cultural Heritage Centre, the Boma Museum, chaotic and vibrant markets as well as Shanga, an art centre for disabled artists creating beadwork, glasswork, jewellery and clothes.
Whether you stay one night or two – be sure to take some time to explore this eccentric little Tanzanian town before heading out into wild Africa.
