Traveling to Africa can be a daunting experience. We have compiled this document to help you when planning a safari to the wild continent.
For more information on:
First Aid
Our guides are trained in basic first aid and our vehicles are equipped with a comprehensive medical aid kit. Preventative malaria medication should be taken before the trip and throughout its duration, although it is advisable to consult a doctor prior to departure.
Insurance
It is compulsory for all travelers to have insurance covering their personal requirements, medical expenses and personal possessions. This is to be arranged before leaving your home country. Jenman African Safaris cc has comprehensive passenger and public liability insurance.
Luggage
There is a baggage limit of one rucksack per person in addition to a small "day pack" for cameras, toiletries, etc. This is very useful for excursions during the tour. Please adhere to the allowance specified as space for luggage is limited.
Meals
All meals are organized by the guide and are prepared by him/her with the help of the group (on participation safaris). Meals are nutritious and filling, drawing on fresh local produce where possible. We buy groceries along the way, so our clients have a say in what type of meals are eaten. Please advise us of any special dietary requirements in advance.
Sleeping bags
Jenman African Safaris cc is able to supply sleeping bags (U$30) for the duration of the tour if necessary.
Spending Money
Clients are advised to bring enough money to cover the purchase of curios and entertainment (alcoholic drinks, mineral water etc). US Dollars, Pound Sterling and South African Rand (ZAR) are the most practical and convenient currencies. There are automatic teller machines (ATMs) available in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa to draw money.
Suggested Clothing
Shorts, swimming costume, comfortable walking shoes, light trousers/jeans, sarong, sandals, T-shirts, sun hat, long-sleeved shirts, windbreaker and track suit. Warm clothes in the winter months (May - August).
Suggested other items
Sleeping bag, Flash Light & spare batteries, UV protection, water bottle and camera
Transport
Jenman African Safaris cc uses fully equipped Toyota Hi-Aces (1999) with comfortable seating, large windows for game viewing and a music system. An off-road trailer is fitted with a field kitchen. All luggage is carried in the trailer to ensure maximum comfort in the vehicle.
