2011 safari updates

Indaba (Africa's largest travel show) always signals to us that all of the 2011 safari updates, upgrades and potential price changes must be done. And with Indaba starting this week our product, marketing and operations managers have been working extremely hard to get this all completed in time, before they go off to the travel show!

Thanks to all their hard work and dedication we are ready and eagerly awaiting the 2011 safari season... which we are expecting to be one hectic year based on the exciting new safari changes for 2011.

A sneak peak at the changes for 2011:

Botswana Wildlife Breakaway: Our famous & popular 14-day Botswana Tour will now also include Hwange National Park and we have also incorporated the feedback from our clients and have therefore moved Chobe National Park as a highlight of the trip to the end of the tour.

Botswana Untouched Mobile Safari: This is a classic Botswana Safari - starting in Johannesburg and travelling via Limpopo, Khama Rhino Sanctuary and Makgadikgadi Pans through Botswana's most famous National Parks: Moremi, Savuti and Chobe to Victoria Falls. Jenman African Safaris will in 2011 be one of the first operators, offering this tour as a fully accommodated safari... but most importantly still as an affordable safari.

Pure Namibia: Our 14-day Pure Namibia Safari will now travel through the Western Corridor of Etosha. This area has only recently been opened for tourists and we thought our clients would love to be one of the first to experience this untouched part of Namibia.

World in One Country: This famous safari traversing South Africa within 19 days has now been changed to a Lodge Safari, allowing clients more comfort and more time to marvel at the different attractions instead of setting up camp and preparing meals!

We will update you with more information in the next Newsletter and final rates will be released by the beginning of July. Watch this space.

Indemnity forms

Jenman African Safaris CC is a professional Tour Operator, registered in South Africa. We have been operating since 1993 and are proud of our safety record.

Jenman African Safaris safety standards include that all vehicles are built to the SABS Safety standards and are serviced at their required intervals. All of our guides are qualified and registered field guides with the appropriate driving permits. We carry full passenger liability insurance, general public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance, underwritten by Lloyds of London. In order for our passengers to be covered by the above mentioned insurance, Lloyds of London requests that they sign an indemnity form.

The above is a standard practice in Southern and East Africa and is followed by all reputable Tour Operators, Safari Lodges and activity operators. Please be informed that signing this document before tour start is necessary in order for you (our clients) to participate on our safaris and to be covered by our insurances.

Should you wish to see this indemnity form beforehand, please feel free to ask your consultant to send you a copy.

Zimbabwe - Garth Jenman answers some tough questions (FINAL part)

This is our final part of the Zimbabwe questions & answers section ... We hope you have been enjoying all the news about Zimbabwe and we hope that this has answered all your queries. Thanks to everyone who has asked us questions, encouraged travel to Zimbabwe and shared their amazing stories with us.

Don't forget to comment on our blog/s about Zimbabwe (click here) if you have any opinions!

Is there international news & TV available? And are your guides/clients kept up-to-date with any important news affecting Zimbabwe while on safari?
Yes, there is international news available and we also have operational offices in Zimbabwe which we use to relay any important information onto our guide. We also (from Cape Town) keep in contact with the happenings in Zimbabwe with lodges and camps continuously as well as with our sources and press-releases to make sure that any important information is passed onto our safari guide as well as the clients immediately if need be.

Because of poverty, what is the state of hygiene there?
In general Zimbabwe is a hygienic area. Obviously, in the more crowded parts (shanty towns) and cities like Harare there are some areas that have poor hygiene. Our safaris only go to/visit places that have suitable hygiene levels for our clients. We go to places that have running water, are clean and are well looked after.

Is there decent public transport?
No, there unfortunately isn't decent public transport, the transport is very sporadic and can't be relied on. The government is working on rebuilding the transport systems in Zimbabwe, but in general we only recommend transport do be done on an organised tour/safari or self-drive.

If you want to know more about Zimbabwe or would like to join one of our exciting Zimbabwe safaris (we have lodge and camping options) then please contact us on info@jenmansafaris.com

Namibia Border fees

Namibia has increased the rates for foreign vehicles crossing into the country from South Africa. These fees are now:

- R200 for all passenger cars, station wagons, S/C and D/C bakkies, 2x4 and 4x4 bakkies, combis, microbuses and minibuses (fewer than 25 passengers).

If you have any questions about Namibia please feel free to email us on info@jenmansafaris.com and one of our friendly consultants (who have traveled all over Namibia) will get back to you.

Meet Adele - get to know one of our consultants

This month we are featuring Adele - one of our direct consultants. Adele has been with Jenman Safaris for just over a year and has been great addition to the consulting team... Adele is fluent in English, Afrikaans and German (Namibian-German) and she has extensive knowledge about South Africa and Namibia.

My favourite destination in Africa would definitely be Inhambane, Mozambique. I absolutely loved it; the warm water, sun and the culture was fantastic! Mozambique also has plenty of prawns which happens' to be my absolute favourite food! I was also able to tick one thing off my list of things I wanted to do - horseback riding along the beach! It was absolutely amazing... I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

We asked Adele to let us know what her favourite restaurant in Cape Town is - for all those thinking of coming to Cape Town or for those that stay here - this is what she had to say:

Where and why? My favourite restaurant and coincidently favourite place in Cape Town would be Moyo Blouberg as it has the most amazing views of Table Mountain and the best part of it is that its one of the few restaurants that has direct access to the beach - finish off your meal with a walk along the beach... The menu includes scrumptious African dishes, tasty seafood's, breakfasts and awesome wines! Tel +27 21 554 9671
