The life of a tour consultant at Jenman...?
Ever wondered what it is like to work at Jenman Safaris? We asked Yael (one of our passionate Senior Sales Consultants) a few questions about life at Jenman Safaris...
What is a normal day like? On a normal day I organize trips down to the tiniest detail. I suggest, research, correspond with travel agents, travellers and suppliers. I check availability, timing, routes, destinations, accommodations, transfers, day trips and everything in between. One small missed detail could make or break someone's hard-earned holiday so I must keep on my toes at all times!
What is your favourite part about being a consultant? Travel is my passion and people trust me to plan a holiday that they may very well have been dreaming of for years. I love that I get to make people's dreams a reality. How many people can say that they make dreams come true for a living?
What is the most interesting client question you have ever had? I can't think of one in particular but I very much enjoy it when people do their research and come up with questions that challenge my skills and knowledge. A funny question that I get asked sometimes is if a remote lodge in the wilderness has a hair-dryer in the room.....I don't think the lions will mind if you're having a bad hair day!
What kind of personality do you think you need to have to be a consultant? You have to be a people person most definitely. You have to think of every trip you organize as if it were your own. This way it is as important to you as it is to them.
If you were planning your own trip, where would you go? I am constantly planning my own trips. The next trip must be Madagascar...the elusive 8th continent with dense forests, baobab trees, wildlife that you can't find anywhere else on the planet and the pristine beaches are the icing on the cake. It's like the Amazon, the Caribbean and the vision of Africa all rolled into one. The best part? Few visitors means no crowds, maybe that's why the lemurs always have that surprised look?
Thanks for sharing this Yael! So, are you sure that no hair-dryers are needed...?!
Team Building in De Hoop!
The product and marketing department decided to venture off along the Garden Route for a team building weekend away... And what better place to go then to the De Hoop Nature Reserve?!
De Hoop is only about 3 hours away from Cape Town and boasts a stunning beach, a gorgeous vlei (lake) and a lovely animal-filled nature reserve. Our Team building weekend away included a 17 km nature walk, a 2 km marine walk and tidal pool swim, a 2 hour quad biking tour and more... So much fun!

Kruger National Park Flooding - good news!
Over the past few weeks we have heard the numerous reports about flooding in the popular Kruger area - roads closed, trips cancelled, tourists airlifted out and vehicles been stuck. Strangely a few years the same thing happened when the heavy rains caused many rivers to overflow causing chaos …However in comparison this year seems far worse than before.
The good news is that it’s almost all over. A lot of the flooding has dried up…. Some of the establishments are still closed due to the water damage and a few roads are waiting to be repaired before travellers can drive over them safely. But, if you are on your way to Kruger or planning a trip there in the next few months you can now officially breathe a sigh of relief! Tripadvisor 2012: Cape Town a top city to visit!
The 2012 Tripadvisor recommendations are here! And you guessed it; Cape Town made it into the top 15 again ... It’s no wonder that our main Jenman Office is located in Cape Town?!
"There is much to do and see in the city of Cape Town, with its gorgeous beaches, scenic natural settings, impressive architecture, and booming nightlife. Outdoor enthusiasts can hike up the rugged trails of Table Mountain. For the less adventurous, there is the Table Mountain Cableway. The beaches are favoured by residents and visitors alike, and the historical Cape Dutch buildings are worth visiting..." - Tripadvisor.
