Wild Coast South Africa

SOUTH AFRICAN SAFARIS AND THE WILD COAST
The Wild Coast is a stretch of land established in 1994 as the independent homelands for the Transkei, Ciskei and the Eastern Cape Provinces in South Africa. The Wild Coast was the landing place for the settlers in 1820 and is now the traditional homeland for the Xhosa speaking tribes…It extends all the way from the Mtamvuna River to the Great Kei River - the area between this is an untamed and undeveloped wilderness paradise. Rocky cliffs, secluded beaches, lush hills, river valleys and the most amazing coastlines can be found at the Wild Coast!
The Wild Coast is made up of fertile land and some of the region is well known for different services and trade productions, such as; Langkloof Valley for its fruit orchards, the Karoo for sheep farming, Grahamstown for dairy and fruit productions and the Magwa area for coffee and tea production. The Wild Coast is also known for its amazing fishing areas as the coast boasts an abundance of squid, line fish and hake.
There are many South African attractions located along the Wild Coast, such as; the Nelson Mandela museum, the Hluleka Nature Reserve, the famous ‘Hole in the Wall’, the Silaka Nature Reserve, the Wild Coast golf course, the Dwesa and Cwebe Nature Reserve as well as the Luchaba Nature Reserve. Along the Wild Coast Mountains you can also find the famous ‘hutted trail’ offering accommodation in huts along the coast and the mountain range. Any hikes along this route should be arranged professionally as the Wild Coast terrain is very unpredictable. This coast also hosts some amazing animals, besides the fantastic bird-life; there is an abundance of marine life – whales, dolphins and beautiful fish.
The Wild Coast is an all year round holiday destination with little rain fall in the winter months. The climate varies depending where you are; the west side is dry with minimal rain during the winter months – frosty winters and hot summers. The rain increases the further east you travel on the Wild Coast. The Tsitsikamma and Grahamstown regions of the Wild Coast have more rain with higher humidity (subtropical region)… Near the Rhodes area it can get very cold even boasting snow in some of the Wild Coast areas. Even though this area is great for travelling all year round, the most popular time is December.
