Nairobi National Park

Safari Highlights in Kenya
Nairobi National Park
Nairobi National Park is located only 7km away from the busy metropolitan city of Nairobi. The main focus of having the Nairobi National Park so close to the city is for educational purposes - to raise awareness about wildlife. This was actually Nairobi’s first National Park and was established in 1946.
The Nairobi National Park boasts a large population of wildlife including a successful rhino sanctuary. Other animals found within this protected reserve include; buffalo, leopard, lion, eland, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, hartebeest and many other fascinating species. The Nairobi National Park is also home to the David Sheldrick Trust. This trust looks after orphaned elephants and rhinos – rearing them back to health and protecting them, and in some cases even raising them. The David Sheldrick Trust has one of the most effective rhino sanctuaries in Kenya and is an extremely successful conservational project. In fact they look after all rhinos and elephants that are orphaned from anywhere in Kenya.
Nairobi National Park is a great place to visit if you are already in the busy city of Nairobi – on business, starting your Kenyan safari or just passing through. The Nairobi National Park offers some guided nature walks within the reserve – these walks are very educational where you can learn about Kenya, the wildlife, the history and most importantly how to help the conservational efforts of protecting the wildlife.
The Nairobi National Park is characterised by grass plains scattered with acacia bushes. There is also a natural forest located along the river on the south side of this park. While the terrain is beautiful the wildlife is more impressive. Many herbivores flock together within the Nairobi National Park during the dry months.
