Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park is Kenya’s second most popular National Park and was officially declared a protected reserve by UNESCO in 1974. Amboseli was previously known as the Maasai Amboseli Game Reserve and covers an impressive area of 39,206 hectares spreading over into the border of Tanzania. This makes it the ideal national park to visit if you want to explore East Africa – both Kenya and Tanzania!

Many Kenya safaris include Amboseli National Park as a highlight because it’s a beautiful area and the views of Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) in the distance are breathtaking. The wildlife variety is also impressive and the cultural interactions are very special…

The most attractive aspect of Amboseli is its distinctive terrain – dry lake beds amongst oases of swamps offer travellers the most amazing Kenyan contrasts.  There are quite a few roads that run through the Amboseli National Park that travellers can drive along while taking pleasure in some amazing game viewing!

Amboseli National Park has an interesting array of wildlife and is known for being the best place in Kenya to get close to free ranging elephants. Other animals found in the Amboseli National Park are buffalo, impala, lion, cheetah, hyena, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and more.

There are also about 400 different species of birds found within Amboseli such as; raptors, pelicans, kingfishers – just to name a few. If anyone is interested in bird life and photography then this is the place to go!
