African Safari / about us

Jenman African Safaris is a family-run business with brothers Garth, Brendan and Andrew Jenman having grown up in Southern Africa and spending well over a decade exploring the region, travelling and working in the hospitality industry. Their camping division, Campwild Tours and Safaris, was created in 1993. Since then the company has grown at a steady pace and has achieved a reputation for reliability, safety, high service standards and excellent value for money. With time, the brothers diversified their product range and, catering to their customers needs, started running scheduled as well as tailor-made Lodge style safaris. Thus in 1998 Jenman African Safaris was founded as the holding company and Campwild Tours and Safaris became Jenman's camping division. In 2005 the brothers once again saw a gap in the market for exclusive upmarket tailor-made lodge-style safaris and they created African Luxury Hideaways with Andrew Jenman heading up this division.

Their philosophy: To provide comfortable, more personal and interactive small group safaris. Jenman African Safaris has positioned itself to be able to provide their customers with the product they require, whether its a budget or an upmarket safari, catering for those who are looking for a value for money African Safari experience.

"We would like to share what we've discovered and be involved in the renaissance of the region. We're committed to creating outstanding experiences of Southern and East Africa for our clients"
(Garth Jenman)

Management Team

Managing Director
Garth Jenman

Born in Durban, South Africa, he has lived in Cape Town as well as Harare, Zimbabwe. After studying economics at university, Garth travelled abroad for two years through South East Asia and Australasia and upon his return to Southern Africa he realised the many opportunities the tourism industry had to offer. He started a lodge in Harare, Zimbabwe, and from here, he ran safaris around Zimbabwe, mainly to the Lower Zambezi valley and Mana Pools areas. He expanded his area of operations to include Botswana and Namibia and at the beginning of 1998, his brother Brendan joined him, and Jenman Safaris (then Campwild) was born. Quite simply, Jenman Safaris offers something unique, and caters for the needs of a market that were previously not met; small-group scheduled tours as well as tailor-made travel.
Brendan Jenman
Marketing Director

After completing his Bachelor of Science degree with Zoology and Environmental and Geographical studies as majors, he spent two years travelling abroad. On his return to Southern Africa he undertook a botany project in Mozambique for 8 months and later joined his brother at his lodge in Zimbabwe. It was here that the Campwild concept was born. It would allow him to combine his passion for Africa with its environment and its ability to share all of its wonders. He returned to South Africa to do a postgraduate course in Business and Marketing Management and Jenman Safaris (then Campwild) has not taken a step back since.

Andrew Jenman
Managing Director of African Luxury Hideaways - a division of Jenman African Safaris

After finishing his studies in social science at the university of Cape Town Andrew went to work with a leading UK tour operator in London. He then returned to South Africa to set up their South African Branch. After this Andrew was looking for a new and challenging opportunity and joined Jenman African Safaris to head up a new and exclusive lodge division, African Luxury Hideaways. Andrew has travelled most of Southern and East Africa since 1993 and regularly does inspection trips to make sure the lodges we employ for African Luxury Hideaways meet the highest standards. All of our lodges are committed to the eco friendly standards and sustainable tourism levels that our clients expect. Having travelled extensively to most continents in the world, Africa is one of the few you can just keep going back to.

Favourite African Destination: Other than South Africa, I have unfortunately not traveled into any other African countries as yet. I only recently had the pleasure of traveling to Italy for an amazing 3-week holiday. We own a farm on the outskirts of Napier which we try and get to at least once a month. I love the feeling of being close to nature and my favourite pastime at the farm, besides just chilling out with my husband, is watching hundreds of weaver birds come to their nests at 6 in the evening and the sounds of the frogs chattering and calling their mates about 1 hour later. We usually end the day off watching the stars and satellites passing overhead (weather permitting ofcourse!). There is nothing more beautiful!
